The Inquiry

Why bother?

You’re already alive. You’ve been thinking for years. So why peel back the curtain?

Because most of us confuse the curtain for the world. We build a “me” out of memories, ideas and feelings, then spend decades defending this fictional character. When sickness or conflict hits, we cling harder. Suffering isn’t optional, but ignorance about what we’re clinging to certainly is.

Self-inquiry isn’t a technique. It’s what happens when you stop looking outside for answers. Truth is a pathless land — no steps, no levels, no guru badges. You look, the illusion unravels. That’s it.

Thought & Story

Thought can bake bread, build bridges, and schedule meetings. It can also spin a 24/7 documentary called “My Life.”

The problem isn’t thinking; it’s forgetting that thinking is a story, not reality. The world you see isn’t an objective place; it’s a narrative built from selected data. When you believe your story is the only one, you suffer.

Noticing thought is like waking up during a movie. You realise you’re in the audience. Suddenly, the plot has less grip.

Love & Silence

Love, here, isn’t mood lighting or the perfect partner. It’s what’s left when the noise of self-protection softens. It doesn’t need a reason or a target. It doesn’t hide behind words. It happens when you stop constructing yourself.

Silence is not the absence of thought but the presence of awareness. It’s the taste of being without telling a story about being. Truth is beyond the grasp of concepts; it’s experienced directly, not spoken of.

Koans for a Modern Life

A koan isn’t a clever riddle and it can’t be understood conceptually; it’s a brick through the window of logic.

  • What is your original face before your parents were born?
  • Who drags this body around?
  • If you’ve eaten your food, go wash your bowl.
  • If your phone battery dies, does your identity die with it?

These aren’t questions with answers; they’re keys to jam into the gears.

For the sceptic

This isn’t about becoming more spiritual or calm. It’s about seeing that the sense of self — and identification with your mind and body — which you carry around like luggage, isn’t solid.

When that illusion breaks, life becomes more honest, more effortless, and oddly way more fun. You can still pay taxes and argue with your partner, but something essential shifts.

a pause

A twenty-second pause

Notice a sound. A sight. A body sensation. Now: was awareness trying? Awareness is already here. It doesn’t need cultivating. Insight isn’t given by a teacher; it’s recognised by the one who looks.

The question is: are you ready to see what’s beyond your mind? Dive deeper, or go back to the beginning.
